NTT Docomo announced the introduction of a new smartphone designed for gaming on the go. The mobile gaming phone is known as the Xperia PLAY SO-01D and is certified by PlayStation, runs Android and comes with a game controller. It’s a smartphone and a gaming system that will be available in Japan later this fall.

When you keep it in landscape mode, the handset reveals its sliding gaming control featuring two touch pads as well as left/right buttons, a digital D pad and four action buttons. The Xperia PLAY Game Launcher app delivered by Sony Ericsson allows you to find content developed for this handset model and play fun games from the Android Market, the PlayStation Store and gaming sites.

When in portrait mode, the smartphone works like the other Sony Ericsson models, featuring a 4-inch display, a 3MP camera, a 5MP camera, HD video shooting, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, high-speed HSDPA, microSDHC slot, Flash player, 480 hours standy, 450 minutes talk time, and so on.

The price was not yet revealed.
