Hi, I’m DummyGeekGurl, and I’m making my presence felt here on Tech Spottr.
You may have seen me around the ‘net, on Twitter, and on Gadzooki. Now I’m here too. Don’t worry, you can still see me up on Gadzooki.com.
For today’s news, we have a new Linux Distro out on the market! It’s the industry upstart Rocket gOS 2.0. It’s built on top of Ubuntu Linux 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), but with a twist:
Doesn’t this just remind you of OS X’s Aqua interface? But lookie what’s down on the dock! Yes, those are all Google-related and other web-based applications we all so love using.
This Linux upstart has so made waves in the Linux community that it had been “famous” long before DistroWatch even started tracking it! Everex had shipped out its machines with Rocket gOS since late October and they are now for sale at Wal-Mart stores all over America.
Rocket gOS purports to use less resources for its interface because it uses Enlightenment, which is not as huge a resource hog as Gnome or KDE. Pretty nifty for those who want speed and want it bad.
Here are the applications included in Rocket gOS:
- Mozilla Firefox
- gMail
- Meebo
- Skype
- Google Documents & Spreadsheets
- Google Calendar
- Google News
- Google Maps
- GIMP
- Blogger
- Xine Movie Player
- OpenOffice.org 2.2
Intrigued? Mosey over to their official site now!
(Here’s hoping good ol’ Steve Jobs won’t do a Redmond and start suing the rights of Rocket gOS!)
